Cancer Illumination™ Imaging

Experience the next generation of intraoperative cancer visualization with the Synergy Vision™ imaging system, now cleared for use with CYTALUX® (pafolacianine) injection—an FDA-approved cancer imaging agent.

CYTALUX is a registered trademark of On Target Laboratories, Inc.

What Is Cancer Illumination Technology?

During this process, fluorescent agents bind to folate receptors that are overexpressed on lung and ovarian cancerous cells, causing tumors to "light up" using NIR during surgery.

Cancer Illumination imaging provides real-time visualization of cancerous lesions. Using targeted fluorescent agents and near-infrared (NIR) imaging, this unique technology allows surgeons to identify cancerous lesions in the lungs and ovaries, enabling a more complete resection.

Applications in Lung and Ovarian Cancer

Cancer Illumination imaging has proven especially valuable in thoracic and gynecologic oncology. It helps uncover lesions that may not be visible on preoperative imaging and assists in guiding more confident resections, even in anatomically challenging areas.

How Cancer Illumination Works

01

IV Administration

Administer CYTALUX intravenously to patients before surgery.

02

Allow for Circulation

Perform surgery between 1 and 24 hours after IV administration for lung cancer procedures, and between 1 and 9 hours after IV administration for ovarian cancer procedures.

03

Allow CYTALUX to Work

CYTALUX contains a folic acid analog that binds to folate receptors present on lung and ovarian cancer cells.

04

Perform Procedure With Synergy Vision System

Use the Synergy Visionary™ camera head in NIR mode to visualize CYTALUX to detect where cancerous cells exist.

Why Accurate Cancer
Detection Matters

Surgeons using Cancer Illumination Imaging

Surgeons using Cancer Illumination imaging benefit from:

  • check_circle

Fast and more precise localization, supporting tissue sparing approaches2

  • check_circle

Confident resections enabled by real-time margin assessment2

  • check_circle

Identification of occult malignant lesions not seen on preoperative imaging2

Incomplete removal of cancerous lesions is a leading cause of cancer recurrence.1 Cancer Illumination imaging improves the visibility and detection of malignant lesions, helping surgeons achieve a more precise and complete resection.2

Proven Results

Cancer Illumination imaging is supported by clinical trials in both lung and ovarian cancer diagnoses. Surgical oncology studies show improvements in cancerous lesion detection, close margins, and more.2

19%

27%

With CYTALUX, additional lesions were found in 27% of ovarian cancer patients that were not visible with standard techniques.3
8%

8%

In 8% of lung cancer patients, surgeons identified additional cancerous lesions intraoperatively that were not detected on preoperative imaging.2
38%

19%

In 19% of patients, CYTALUX identified lesions that were not detected using standard white light image or palpation.2
19%
Surgeons reported changing their surgical approach in 29% of patients based on real-time fluorescence imaging with CYTALUX.2
38%
In a real-world data publication, 100% of patients had negative margins when CYTALUX was used.4
